Happy Buy Nothing Day! Or, if you’re not observing that one, happy holidays! To kick off the season on this day after Thanksgiving, I’m having some big giveaways! First, all Remixers (everyone who has already pre-ordered the ebook) are automatically entered into a raffle today – I’ll be picking five winners total: three win a $10 off coupon code for my knitting patterns, and two win a prize package of goodies! I’ll comment here, post in the ravelry forums, and email the winners once I do the drawing, which will be around 8pm today.
The second giveaway is for all who have not pre-ordered Remixed, who may be thinking about it or wanting to in the future, and it’s just this one day only, so enter now!
I’ll be picking FIVE winners from the comments for Remixed giveaways: four will win 1 Remixed pattern of their choice, and a $5 off coupon code for the ebook in case you do decide you want to buy it later – kind of like testing out the one pattern to make sure you’re going to like it before you get the whole collection… And then one lucky winner will get the whole thing! (meaning, the ebook pre-order, so these 4 patterns now, and the remaining 4 patterns as they are finished, and then the whole book later)
So, to enter the drawing, comment on this post with your favorite out of these four Remixed patterns that are out so far, and/or tell us about something you’ve made with recycled yarn, or something else Remixed-related… At the end of the day (midnight, west coast time, on Buy Nothing Day/Black Friday) I’ll choose the winners at random.
And here’s a (badly lit) peek at the fifth Remixed pattern! It’s by far the simplest of all the designs so far, and totally beginner-friendly, but using all your bits of leftover yarn scraps makes it look awesome! It’s called Slanted & Enchanted, and it’ll probably be out to Remixers by the end of next week, if all goes well…

Very difficult to choose but I’d go for Parallel Lines because for me it totally suits the concept of remixing! Can’t wait also for the scarf pattern, am trying to use all my leftovers these days and this is exactly the kind of pattern I would need! Thanks for your creativity and for this wonderful blog 🙂

I really like both Parallel Lines and Wild is the Wind – you have such a unique way of approaching knitting! I have made potholder/trivets out of recycled t-shirt yarn. I have also taken apart things that my kids have outgrown to make something else out of the same yarn.

I love Wild is the Wind. It might be the one hat that would suit me. I have made small area rugs out of old t-shirt “yarn” and reuse various containers all the time. They’re a great way to get organized for free. Thanks for the giveaway!

My favourite is Wild is the Wind! I love the spirals, I love the leaves, the point, the buttons… well, everything. I was devastated to see that you were having it test knit when I didn’t have the time.
Regarding remixing, I’ve made potholders using recycled t-shirt yarn and a hat from your recycled spun… I just realized that both were presents for my mum! Oh, and I have a whole collection of old t-shirts and torn jeans and other clothes to use for sewing and/or making yarn. I really love making new things out of old stuff instead of throwing it away, and that’s part of what I like about your creative work.

Oh, oh, pick me, pick me! My fav so far is Wild is the Wind and I use recycled yarn for just about everything (scarf for my dad, hat for the boyfriend, hat for me, etc., etc.)

I love anything swirly and buttony, so hands-down Wild is the Wind is my favorite, but I love them all! I like to recycle fabric scraps and leftover yarn bits into my handspun yarns, so I feel like I’m recycling wee bits here and there all the time. My next project is to cut up a wool blanket I inherited from my grandmother, dye up the pieces in a few different colors and then patch it back together. Not exactly a yarn adventure, but definitely wooly and repurposed. You’re awesome…thanks for the giveaway opportunity! xoxo

I like freewheeling the best. It looks so cozy! As far as remixing goes, long before I learned to knit, my mom was cutting up tshirts to crochet into rugs. I learned to hand wind balls of yarn with recycled tshirts. I made a couple rugs myself, before I converted to knitting, come to think of it. 😀

I really want to try Freewheelin’. I think the spiraling shape would make it easier to throw on (and have stay put) than any shawl pattern (and the bookstore I work in is chilly!).

For my first yarn recycling adventure, I unraveled an angora/ wool sweater made of fingering weight yarn. I had no idea what I was getting into. I dyed it greeny-blue, and made a clapotis. Definitely my most labor intensive project ever!

I love love love the Wild is the Wind pattern! Though I am very intrigued by this new scarf pattern as well! Hopefully soon my husband and I will be inheriting a couple of old doors from my parents 1920’s home & we’re gonna add a couple of hobby horse legs & some glass on top to make it smooth for computers/sewing machine and make either one large shared workspace or a great L-shaped sharable space. I love making old things new again, and I’m always on the lookout for great thrift shop sweaters to bring new life to!

How very generous of you! I wish I were observing buy nothing day, but I sorely needed new blankets and bath towels, so I was at Fred Meyer bright and early with a cup of coffee in hand.
I have been admiring Wild as the Wind since you started posting pics on Ravelry, but I have never had good luck with top down hats.

Love the new scarf pattern! I may just start rummaging around for small bits for it. I have a ribbon sweater that I bought with the intent to reclaim the yarn but I haven’t gotten it frogged correctly so maybe I can use some of the smaller bits for this. I like that your patterns encourage bravery and using what you have.

I cannot stop telling you how much I love the 5th pattern. Love. I’d repeat forever to make a blanket, as I am awful at crochet, and it reminds me of the blankets my grandma crocheted for me.

I love them all, but Rumours would be first on my needles…I love all the stitch interest in the pattern and fingerless gloves are perfect for bike rides or a knitting/tv marathon on a cold night.
