Ok, giveaway time! So there will be more stitch set giveaways happening on other blogs this week, which I’ll be sure to let you know about – for those, the winners will get to choose their set themes, so for mine I’m doing something a little different…
I have 3 Craft Tools sets in the old (pre-Spoonflower upgrade) format, left over from holiday craft show time – 2 regular and 1 matted – so I’ll be choosing 3 winners to each get one of those. Also, I had some extra prints made of the example images (unicorn/squirrel/triceratops/pincushion) so I could stitch up different kinds of examples, but it gets boring stitching the same images over and over, so several runners up will get single example image fabric squares, just for fun! So there will be something like 8 or 9 winners total!
To enter: leave a comment telling me what kinds of colors you like best for connect-the-dots stitching. (Light, bright, neutral, pastely, etc; I never know what everyone will prefer most, so this will help me for future print ordering.)
I’ll pick the winners at random on Monday (the 1st) around noon (Oregon time) – I’ll blog the winners then and email everyone to get addresses. Good luck!
update 1/26: so this is just fantastic timing – my blog is having issues with comments. hopefully it’s super temporary. I’m not getting the comments sent to my email (again – that happened awhile back, then just magically fixed itself a few days later) and some people are getting error messages when trying to comment. It seems that if you try commenting and get an error, the comment still goes through (I just have to approve it before it shows up) – I’ve seen a couple of people commenting several times because it seems like it’s not going through, but it is. Anyway, I’m sorry about this, I don’t really know what to do at the moment except wait and see if it gets back to normal…

I really like the brighter colours – especially for the themes that would be great for kids rooms – like the dinosaurs and the mythological creatures. I also feel like the brighter, bolder colours give it a more modern feel.

Hm, I think I prefer bright colors for these. I think it, perhaps, gives a contemporary feel, whereas pastels could look old/faded.
Great giveaway, thanks!

I think the bright colors work best. They not only make the designs more interesting, but I think they’re more likely to have the thread stand out against them. They also tend to look more posh.

I really love oranges and then light, almost tea-stained neutrals, giving them an older, aged look. With the lighter ones, there’s so much opportunity to play with stitch colors and such and spice them up!

I have to agree with the others – bright colors seem to work well with this design style.

I like earthy colors but I really think brights would be the best since they’ll be extra colorful and fun.

It’s so easy for me to think of what colors I would want, but what intensity I would want? A little tougher. But for the most part I like good, strong shades that stand out, but they’d have to be light enough for the stitches to stand out still more, so I guess bright shades of lighter colors, but if it were going to be on brown, it would probably need to be on a more tan color than the good, chocolatey brown that is my favorite, you know?

It depends on the pictures. Bright ones for the cryptozoology and craft projects, greens and browns for the dinosaurs. Not sure about the woodland creatures…

I’m in the minority here, I guess — I like the neutrals. Gives more options for thread colors (to me) and also to go crazy with the other fabrics around it — I think these would be great as the center of quilt blocks, so that’s where my mind is going.
Thanks for sharing — love your work!

A combination of pastel and bright colors are great. Maybe depending on the theme of the stitch set, like primary colors for kid-ish things, autumn colors for autumnal-things, etc.

My favorite for matting would be a fun print in black and white. Then you could do your stitching in any color you wanted and it would look great. But, my favorite colors are purple, blue, orange and green. Bright!

I kind of like both ends of the spectrum – super bright and tacky and also neutrals. I can see using the neutrals to embroider the entire thing with satin stitch and the bright ones to mat on a bright piece of fabric and leave it mostly just an outline.

I like the medium tones. Not quite pastel, but certainly not all the way to jewel-toned, either.
As for the actual colors, I tend to gravitate to the cool end of the spectrum. And red. I’m working on making yellow and orange my friends, but we’re not there yet. 🙂

I like backgrounds that are flowers or leaves or other forms of botany. I don’t particularly care about the color, I just think that the print is what makes it really fun! I think they look really cool behind the dinosaurs and mythical creatures!
